As part of an investigation to solve the mystery of Somerton man's identity once and for all, his body has been exhumed from West Terrace Cemetery in Adelaide, over 70 years since his discovery.
"Following recovery of the remains, Forensic Science SA will attempt to recover a DNA profile from the man," Detective Superintendent Des Bray said, in an article by Microsoft News.
Forensic Science SA assistant director Anne Coxon said modern technology was light years ahead of the techniques available when the body was discovered in the late 1940s.
"Tests of this nature are often highly complex and will take time," she said.
"However, we will be using every method at our disposal to try and bring closure to this enduring mystery."
